This 1.3 hectare garden stretches to the south of Ukimido and Sagi-ike Pond at the southern end of Nara Park.
The garden was created by the Yamaguchi family, an Osaka conglomerate, during the Meiji and Taisho periods, and is designated as “Nara Park of Scenic Beauty,” a national cultural asset, for its spectacular view of Mount Yu and the Sagi-ike pond.
It was also a place where painters and tea masters such as Komidera Hachiyama enjoyed cultural exchanges in the garden and tea rooms.
The beautiful view of Nara, the various garden styles, and the details on the stone lanterns and other objects loved by the artists.
In addition, on the west side of the park, there is a teahouse called “Takuan” (䕪庵) built by the Yamaguchi family, which can be used with a reservation.
The garden can be entered free of charge from the south side of Ukimido and Sagi-ike Pond. Naoya Shiga and other leading Japanese cultural figures have visited this wonderful garden.
